This is the author’s own copy which she had bound in full red leather with five raised bands on the spine, gilt stamping on spine and covers, gilt top edge, author’s initials in gilt on front cover. Comes with a copy of the letter of provenance from the author’s daughter stating: “This book was part of Anne McCaffrey’s personal library.”
The Rowan is the first book of The Tower and the Hive series by Anne McCaffrey. The Rowan is a futuristic novel centered around an advanced technological society whose people have a variety of psychic gifts including telepathy and psychokinesis. The series takes place in the same universe as her Pegasus trilogy.
Anne McCaffrey broke into the male-dominated world of sci-fi and fantasy with a vengeance. In 1968, McCaffrey won the Hugo Award for fiction with her novella Weyr Search, from which her Dragonriders of Pern series would later develop. Additionally, McCaffrey was the first woman to win a Nebula Award with her second work of the Pern series Dragonrider in 1969. In 2005 McCaffrey was named the 22nd Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and was awarded the Robert A. Heinlein Award in 2007. On June 17, 2006, McCaffery was honored with an induction into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame.
