Matheson served as an inspiration to many, across all literary genres and creative mediums. Stephen King dedicated his novel Cell to Matheson acknowledging his influence on his work. In 1984 Matheson received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement, as well as the Bram Stocker Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1991. Matheson was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2010.
